ADPC Provides 40 “Samdech Techo” Scholarships to Cambodian Students

PHNOM PENH: The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) has decided to provide 40 “Samdech Techo” scholarships to Cambodian students to study in Thailand. The scholarship announcement was made during the meeting between the Director of Krirk University and member of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Committee, Mr. Krasae Chanawongse, with Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday morning, 20 July, at the Peace Palace.

Mr. Krasae Chanawongse informed Prime Minister Hun Sen that the ADPC has now become an international center which also provides scholarships to Cambodian students. During the meeting, he also requested to meet with the Prime Minister next year as well.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Sen welcomed the progress of the ADPC and instructed Mr. Krasae to meet with the Cambodian Minister of Education, Hangchuon Naron, to select the Cambodian students who will receive scholarships.

Information about what scholarships are offered have not yet been released.

The Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) is an autonomous international organization that works to build the resilience of people and institutions against the impacts of natural disasters and climate change in Asia and the Pacific. Established in 1986, it provides comprehensive technical services to countries in the region across social and physical sciences to support sustainable solutions for risk reduction and climate resilience.

ADPC supports countries and communities in Asia and the Pacific in building their DRR systems, institutional mechanisms and capacities, to become resilient to numerous environmental hazards, such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, cyclones, droughts, and more.
